Introduction

Roopa Knitting Mills is a circular knit fabric manufacturer located in the suburbs of Toronto in Eastern Canada.  They are “the made in North America solution for sportswear, fashion and industrial fabrics.”   Roopa provides fabric solutions to a discerning market where consistent quality, flexible minimums and lead times make a difference.

History & Overview

This family-run business was founded in 1991 by Nat Thakkar, who with over 30 years of experience in the knitting and dyeing industry, began as a converter and evolved Roopa into a full service knitting mill in 2000.

At that time, his son Amit joined the team on a full-time basis and now also brings almost 10 years of experience with him.  Together, along with their in-house associates they run the day-to-day operations and handle the technical development of new product construction.

Because Roopa Knitting Mills is an owner-operated company, there is no ‘red-tape’ to navigate making issues such as new product development, price quotations and delivery issues easier and faster to address.

At present, their modern 24,000 square foot production facility houses 15 new state-of-the-art machines capable of knitting up to 200,000 pounds of fabric per month.

Products

Roopa produces a wide range of basic fabrics such as jersey, rib, piqué/lacoste, interlock, fleece (3-end fleece, ‘French’ fleece, pre-shrunk fleece and sueded fleece) and polyester knits for sportswear.

Our dedication to innovation, research and development keeps us at the forefront of the textile world. Fabrics today are much more technologically enhanced than they used to be and Roopa Knitting Mills helps you in bringing these advancements to you via our fabrics.

On this end, they are authorized manufacturers of innovative performance fabrics for the growing technical market: stretch fabrics with Lycra® or spandex, Coolmax®, Coolmax® FreshFX, Supplex®, Tactel® and Meryl®. Update: Roopa is now developing a line of bamboo fabrics.  Stay tuned!

Customers

Over the years, Roopa has supplied fabrics directly and indirectly to customers such as Adidas, Nike, Arcteryx and Puma in the activewear market as well as to many manufacturers in the men’s and women’s contemporary market.  They have also supplied products for the Canadian and U.S. Olympic teams, the U.S. military and the Canadian Government Civil Service.  All of the aforementioned have a high standard code of quality which Roopa has successfully complied with in the delivery of their products.

Service

In the global market place, Roopa Knitting Mills is considered a “niche market” supplier.  With their flexible minimums, as low as 260 yards per color way and their quick turnaround time in product development where lab dips could take as little as 2 days,  Roopa Knitting has tailored its service to a demanding clientele.  Roopa Knitting understands the ever-changing marketplace of the industry and the need for “just-in-time” delivery.  The low minimums allow the customer to work with lower investment and lower inventory, while quick turn-around-time -- minimum 10 to 15 working days, allow the customer to capitalize on market trends.  Above all, Roopa Knitting is passionate about the quality of their products and keeps an eye towards always improving what they do.
